Triax is unique because the driver can select one of three propulsion options: including four-wheel-drive electric, four-wheel-drive hybrid electric or two-wheel-drive internal combustion.
GM engineers developed a unique modular chassis design that accommodates the three propulsion units. The front third of the vehicle holds the electric motor in the electric and hybrid-electric versions. The rear third of the vehicle holds the internal combustion engine in the engine-only and hybrid-electric versions. The middle third houses the vehicle’s energy storage, gasoline for the engine and batteries for the electric motors.
