The Cadillac Cyclone concept car of 1959 evolved into the 1964 XP-74, shown here with the fins cut down, as the car appears today.

I've seen comparison pictures of it next to one of the famed 1959 Convertibles - it's TINY by comparison, about half the '59's size. Unseen here, it has a clear plexi "bubble" top that lifts to allow ingess/egress, here it is hidden in the trunk. Those doors don't swing open on hinges, like standard doors - they slide forward inside the front fenders.

I saw this car at the 1964 World's Fair, and it has stayed with me to this day. Why didn't the morons at GM actually put it into production? This failure, and so many other lost opportunities, is the reason why GM is slowly sliding into the oblivion it so richly deserves.

XP-74 debuted as a '59, fins were trimmed by GM Styling circa '60. It may have been shown at the '64 WF, but this should still be titled as a '1959'.

The Styling studios actually started this car in 58 specifically in preparation for the 1961 1962 Cadillac model years The fins were first cut down in 1960. The fins, lower skegs (lowerer fins) and profile can be see first in the pininfarina 1959 1960 Eldorado Brougham then most clearly and pronounced in the design of the 1961 and 1962 Model years.

I think the doors actually slide backwards. They do in the pic I have seen.
