Michelotti Strandwagen (Kini) - Royal beach car based on a DAF 44
The royal beach car that Michelotti designed on the basis of a DAF 44 to serve as a beach run-about at Porte Ercole, the Italian summer residence of the Dutch Royal Family.


When Prince Willem-Alexander (the current king of Holland) was born, the former Dutch auto manufacturer DAF presented the royal family with a bespoke creation, the Michelotti-designed Kini (Bavarian for King). The quirky styling isn’t to everyone’s tastes but, as a beach car, you couldn’t go far wrong.


«Пляжные машины» были созданы итальянским дизайнером Микелотти в середине 60-х годов на базе серийных моделей. На белом экземпляре ездила Жаклин Кеннеди в Монте-Карло, на синем — правители Нидерландов во время отдыха в Италии. Автомобили назывались DAFkini, то есть «бикини марки DAF».

I HAD A MICELOTTI BEACH TYPE CAR WITH WICKER SEATS NO TOP NO DOORS 1968 FIAT ENGINE A MODERN FIAT JOLLY. BODY BY MICHELOTTI. HERE IN PALM SPRINGS CALIFORNIA EVERYONE KNEW AT AS NATES DELI MOBILE. THIS DAF BEACH CAR IS THE CLOSEST I HAVE EVER SEEN. I DID SEE A DUPLICATE OF MY CAR AT THE CASINO IN MONTE CARLO MANY YEARS AGO.I AM 84 YEARS OLD AND WOULD LIKE TO BUY A CAR OF THIS TYPE OR LIKE THE DAF. PLEASE WRITE ME THANKS LEN

I maintain the world's Registry for Fiat Jolly automobiles, including the 850cc "Shellette" by Michelotti.

I catalog all of them to aid owners and their inquiries. I'll add this variant to my collection.

Hi Steven,
This particular one, previously owned by the dutch royal family (licence plate AA-98) is now in the DAF museum in Eindhoven The Netherlands

Im quite sure the DAF kini is a one of a kind, unlike the FIAT based shellette wich had a limited production of less then 100.
