I.A.D. Alien 1986
After a few innocuous design studies, IAD burst on to the world scene with "an attempt to "out-Countach" the Countach", as the designer of the Alien described his work at the 1986 Turin show. As an exercise in attracting international attention to the young British design company, the Alien was incredibly successful, crowds surrounded the car all through the show.

I first laid eyes upon this creation at the Birmingham NEC motorshow, I think it was 1987?
since then I have not seen a concept that has stayed with me. This to me is a creation of a genius for its time, the first time I saw this car I knew it was something special and have never forgotten the feeling I had inside when I looked at it.
I would love to see it again in the flesh, does anybody know where it is? and if it is open for viewing?

I was a part of the team that produced this great concept car, working on the clay interior and also on the hard build. The epowood tiller (we didn't call it a steering wheel)was the part I remember working on the most.
Of course, it wasn't a "runner" and it didn't even steer, but the design element that I always found fascinating was how the front wheel coverings stayed static as she rolled.

The design team asked for a modeler to accompany it to the Turin motor show, so I volunteered. I believe that was its debut and it was a fantastic experience. Luckily, nothing dropped off during transit.

Messrs. Longmore and Hotblack did an outstanding job of designing this little beauty and I feel privileged to have played a small part in its realisation.

Still looks great doesn't it!
