Italdesign's highly novel MPV is called the Structura. Based on the Audi A8, but designed to take VW's W12 engine, the aim of the car was to promote "the hidden side of design, the internal technological structure." This see-through vehicle—with its lower door sections glazed and aluminum structure exposed for inspection—certainly does that. The windows are fixed for added rigidity, because the designers regard opening windows as being unnecessary in the future; climate control will be highly efficient and tolls will be paid electronically. The rear doors open only if those in front are opened first, and the vehicle has ten airbags.


Долой бессмысленное украшательство декоративными внешними панелями! Силовые элементы кузова тоже могут выглядеть привлекательно. Идею наружного силового каркаса компания «ItalDesign» опробовала на концепт-каре «Capsula» еще в 1982 году. В 1998-м был построен экспериментальный минивэн «Structura», в кузове которого тоже выступали наружу несущие элементы. Их не пытались маскировать – напротив, подчеркивали контрастной окраской остальных панелей. Минивэн доказал свою пригодность: на нем Фабрицио, сын Джуджаро, ездил и по Турину, и даже в Париж. Конечно, в потоке машин подобный автомобиль выглядит необычно. Однако трудно найти более действенный способ завоевать общественные симпатии. Джуджаро делает то, к чему в будущем, вполне вероятно, придут многие крупные автомобильные компании – он на практике реализует идею каркасно-панельного кузова. Пока же мы знаем немногочисленные примеры таких серийных автомобилей – «Renault Espace», «smart».
