Early design work on what would become the Aurora began as early as the late 1980s and manifested itself with a 1989 engineering concept known as the Oldsmobile Tube Car. Beyond the overall similar shape, the Tube Car featured many detailed elements that were later found on the production automobile, including a full-width taillamp, wraparound rear windshield, and frameless windows. Unlike the eventual production car, the Tube Car was of a pillarless hardtop design with suicide doors.

I love my aurora to death and to see that it came from this design is simply breath taking. I am glad to own a car like this one. I agree I wish there was more information regarding the Olds Tube Car.

I loved my first Aurora. I had one ('95) and my mom had a new '98. I later ended up buying a 2001, but it just wasn't the same car. The re-design was a total turn off for my mom, so she didn't buy another. She said it looked like an Alero on steroids, and she didn't care for the Alero at all. She ended up buying a new '01 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Harley Davidson Edition. I still consider picking up a good used '98 or '99 if I can find one.

i can't understand why concept cars always lack mirrors. i think those small accessory parts are what make a car a car and add to the overall shape and form.
