"The Stable of the Thoroughbreds" | Cars from Mills B. Lane's collection
Classic Car Collection

Many a man dreams of owning just one beautiful classic car. Mill B. Lane, Jr., of Atlanta, has collected 50 dreams. By patiently listening and looking all over the U. S. and Europe, he has acquired an assembly of great cars that covers the whole span of automotive history. Some are now very rare. The Packard Boat Tail Speedster is one of only six in this country. Some have distinguished pedigrees. The Bugatti Royale was commissioned for a king. Some, like the Maybach Zeppelin, are big and glamorous. Lane opened "The Stable of the Thoroughbreds," near Atlanta, to the public this year. And for dreamers everywhere, he commissioned artist Alexis De Sakhnoffsky to paint the portraits of his great cars of all time for publishing in two portfolios:

Car illustrations by well renown auto designer, Count Alexis De Sakhnoffsky (1901-1964). He was a Russian-American industrial designer who was known for his streamline style in automotive designs. Before coming to America in 1929, he had become a well known designer of European sports cars. In America, he worked for such companies as Hayes, Packard, and Tucker.

These cars were part of a Classic Car Collection of Mills B. Lane Jr. of Atlanta, a banker (1912-1989). This collection was showcased and presented by the magazine, 'TRUE - The Mans Magazine', in their November 1962 issue.
