1957 Oldsmobile F-88 Mk.II was rebodied version of Earl's F-88 #2
A Mark II version was finished for the 1957 Motorama.

Updated version of the original, painted blue metallic and featuring design aspects of the forthcoming GM ’58s, notably the Chevrolet Impala and Corvette. A big ovoid grille with vertical teeth and a nerf-type front bumper system distinguished this Harley Earl special.

"Absolutley Awesome",is the only way to describe this, then again i always thought Oldsmobile to be the best American Car Maker,
Would be great to see the Oldsmobile brought back one day as a new American Supercar, the Real Rocket 88 Olds.

Looks good. It would be a bit better if the grill opening was just tweaked a little. Overall 9 out of 10 concept car.

Olds sure missed the boat by not producing this one. i see where someone is trying to build a replica. boy is he going to have a bundle it it. give it to jay lino, he will get it done with the rapport he has with GM.

Superb showcar! I have heard that William Mitchell took this car with him into retirement from GM. Now if thats true, thats saying something. Note the built-in carpet savers that became standard on the '61 thru '65 S/fires.

Did any examples of this car survive like the F-88 I ?

The way I understand it, GM intended to have all the fiberglass experimental cars crushed. The junkyards refused, due to not enough weight due to the light weight fiberglass bodies.

They say Harley Earl made away with one or two, as well as Bill Mitchell. Harley Earl's was a "Golden Rocket w a 324 cid hi compression V8. On retirement from GM, he dismantled it, boxed & shipped it (including assembly instructions)to H.L. Cord, (founder of Cord Motors,& later Duesenburg).

One reason it sold so high was that the title actually had Harley Earl's signature as well as H.L. Cord's signature on it; two of the great Automotive Titans of their day.

I used to go along with the story that the Mk.II (the blue car) and the Mk.III (red car with retractable hardtop) were destroyed though when I posted a question about this on a claasic car site, someone replied that someone they know says they own the Mk. II. The old pictures show it in Florida so definitely Harley Earl had it down in Palm Beach. I think if the respondent on the classic car forum is right, more news may emerge. What gives me hope is that I asked about the Corvette Super Sport on a forum and the answers told me it still exists, though hidden for 50 years.I even think the Mk. III could be the Mk.II rebodied just as the Mako Shark I was built atop the XP-700 "dream car."
